Overview
It can be easy to get lost in Beijing—especially if exploring its narrow maze-like hutongs—so make life easy for yourself with this small-group walking tour.
Itinerary
Beijing Night Tour: Old Hutongs & Food Discovery
Meet outside Nanluoguxiang Subway Station at Exit E and follow your guide into Beijing after dark. The route uses the old hutong lanes as a working neighborhood rather than a backdrop, linking five food stops that can be difficult for first-time visitors to identify or order from independently.
Tastings are planned around familiar Beijing street foods such as jianbing, steamed baozi and lamb skewers, plus two smaller alley stops selected for the evening. This is a two-hour small-group walking tour, so the focus is on eating, conversation and navigating the lanes rather than covering a long list of monuments. Dinner-style snacks and the English-speaking guide are included; gratuities are separate.

Traveler Reviews
Honestly, I booked with two dishes in mind and left with a longer list. The hutong lanes gave the route a clear sense of place rather than feeling like random snacks.
Translation mattered as much as the cooking in Beijing. We could ask the host ordinary questions instead of relying on a rehearsed demonstration.
A practical note: one Beijing dish was outside my comfort zone, which was half the reason I booked. Asking how locals eat it made the stop much more interesting.
In hindsight, I liked this more a day later, when I looked back through my photos and realised how different Beijing and the hutong lanes had felt.
I booked mainly for the hutong lanes. I was glad I did because of Beijing.
