Itinerary
Chengdu: Dayi Plum Picking & Cliff Carvings Day Trip
Escape Chengdu for a hands-on, easygoing day in the green countryside of Dayi, where early summer brings the green-plum harvest and a chance to taste rural Sichuan life. Your private car and English-speaking guide pick you up from your hotel for a comfortable two-hour drive into the hills.
Your first stop is a green-plum orchard, where the trees hang heavy with fruit. Pick your own plums and then craft your very own jar of plum cordial, sealing fresh green plums with rock sugar to ferment slowly into a fragrant homemade drink. It is a delightful, interactive activity that you take home as a keepsake of the trip.
Lunch is a warm, country-style group meal cooked over a traditional wood-fired stove, simple, authentic Sichuan home cooking in a rustic setting.
In the afternoon your guide leads a gentle walk along a shaded forest path through lush green woods. The highlight is Shisun Mountain, where centuries-old Buddhist carvings are etched into dramatic cliff faces, a moving glimpse of an ancient mountain shrine. The pace is comfortable and the route relaxed, with frequent stops to take in the scenery and history; this is an enjoyable nature-and-culture stroll rather than a tough hike.
With a private vehicle, dedicated guide, flexible timing and a pet-friendly welcome, this is a genuine taste of rural Sichuan, well suited to families, couples and culture lovers, before the easy drive back to Chengdu.

Traveler Reviews
Honestly, I chose this route for Dayi Plum Picking & Cliff Carvings Day, but it didn't feel built around a single attraction. Chengdu gave the day a different rhythm.
We had enough information to understand Chengdu, but it never turned into a classroom. The balance felt natural. For 10 hours around Chengdu, the pace felt about right.
A practical note: there was more walking than I guessed from the title. Nothing difficult, just enough that I was glad I wore trainers. The time around Dayi Plum Picking & Cliff Carvings Day was not the part I would cut.
