About This Tour
This private Chengdu food-making experience turns a local dish into a practical, bookable cultural activity. Your English-speaking guide handles hotel pickup, translation, cultural explanation, and communication with the cook. Ingredients are prepared in advance so the class runs smoothly, and guests choose 1 dish from 4 local options: Classic spicy beef tallow base, Mild mushroom broth, Tomato broth, Spicy oil dipping sauce and dry spice mix. The local cook demonstrates the key techniques, then you make the dish yourself with guided support. The experience ends with a tasting of what you have made, plus notes on local dining habits, ingredients, and how the dish fits into Chengdu's food culture.

Traveler Reviews
I booked for the food in Chengdu, but the ordinary conversation around the work table was what made the session feel personal.
What helped was simple: dietary questions in Chengdu were handled before we started, not halfway through the first tasting. That made the session much easier to enjoy.
Small tip: do not eat a large breakfast before the Chengdu tour. The portions at individual stops look modest, then suddenly you realise you have been tasting things for hours. The time around the hotpot meal was not the part I would cut.
Looking back, I had a long list of things I thought I needed to see. After the cooking session, I was happier slowing down and noticing fewer things properly.
