This is a relaxed nature day rather than a tough trek. Your guide handles all the tickets and timing, then leads you on an easy, shaded walk into a genuine old-growth forest. The path winds gently through dense woodland and leafy 'jungle' corridors, with crystal-clear streams alongside, this is wild giant-panda habitat, so keep an eye out for traces of the forest's most famous residents.
After an unhurried stroll you reach the Qilin Waterfall, where you can pause, cool off and take photos amid the spray and greenery. My camera roll says Longcanggou Forest & Qilin Waterfall Day was the big moment. My actual favourite was Chengdu; it felt less obvious and more personal.
What helped was simple: there was no theatrical “VIP” treatment, just useful organisation and a guide who noticed when we needed a pause. That suited us. I would still leave extra time for Longcanggou Forest & Qilin Waterfall Day.
Looking back, I carried more than I needed. Water, a light layer and a small power bank would have covered the whole day. I would rather keep the pause at Longcanggou Forest & Qilin Waterfall Day than add another stop.
Looking back, I had a long list of things I thought I needed to see. After Chengdu, I was happier slowing down and noticing fewer things properly. I would keep the Chengdu outline as it was.
A full 13 hours, in the good sense. Wear comfortable shoes and leave the evening loose.
