Itinerary
Chengdu: Ya'an Temple & Old Town Private Day Trip
This relaxed private day tour takes you from Chengdu to Ya'an, a green, easygoing Sichuan town known for its slow pace, misty hills, and creative spirit. With your own English-speaking guide and private vehicle, and hotel pickup included, the whole day is built around comfort and authentic local life rather than effort.
Your first stop is Jinfeng Temple, a peaceful hillside Buddhist site (entry included). A gentle climb up the temple's 'sky ladder' stone steps, taken slowly and at your own pace, rewards you with calm courtyards, incense, and lovely views over the surrounding greenery. Your guide shares the temple's history and the Buddhist traditions still practised there.
From there you head into Ya'an's old town, where the day truly slows down. You stroll quiet lanes lined with teahouses and traditional shops, the kind of place where artists come to sketch and paint. Your guide helps you discover authentic corners, local snacks, and everyday scenes of inland Sichuan living. There is no rush and no strenuous walking, just an easy, atmospheric wander.
Meals are included, letting you taste genuine regional flavours as part of the experience. Gentle, scenic, and full of character, this day suits families, couples, and travellers who want real culture and relaxation rather than a packed itinerary. In the late afternoon your private car returns you comfortably to your Chengdu hotel.

Traveler Reviews
The part around Ya'an Temple & Old Town Day was unhurried, which mattered more to me than squeezing in one more stop. Chengdu was a good counterpoint.
What helped was simple: our guide read the pace well. We got the background when it helped, then space to explore instead of a running lecture. My only advice is not to shorten the time at Ya'an Temple & Old Town Day.
Looking back, I would check the weather and dress in layers. We moved between the vehicle, open spaces and indoor sites often enough to notice the difference. I would keep the Chengdu outline as it was.
Looking back, I tend to switch off when tours become a stream of dates. Here, the stories around Chengdu gave me enough to hold on to without overloading the day. The time around Ya'an Temple & Old Town Day was not the part I would cut.
A full 9 hours, in the good sense. Wear comfortable shoes and leave the evening loose. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
