Chongqing: Fairy Mountain Meadows & Forest Private Day Trip
Escape the heat and bustle of Chongqing for the cool green highlands of Fairy Mountain on this easy, fully private day trip. Your English-speaking guide and private driver collect you from your hotel and drive to Xiannüshan National Forest Park, where ticket entry is included and a quieter, more beautiful side of the mountain awaits.
Instead of the busy standard tourist routes, your guide leads you onto gentle paths that reveal Fairy Mountain's wilder face: shady forest, wide-open alpine meadows and grassland pastures where horses and cattle roam freely. At over a thousand meters the air is fresh and cool, the skies are big and blue, and wild strawberries dot the grass underfoot. A lone tree standing on the meadow makes a classic photo, and there is time simply to wander, relax and take it all in.
The total walking is around 10 kilometers with only gentle elevation gain, so the day is comfortable and well suited to families and first-timers; this is easygoing nature walking, not a strenuous hike. Along the way you climb gently to an open viewpoint for a panorama of Fairy Mountain, and stop at Chongqing's famous "wavy road," a photogenic ribbon of asphalt that rises and dips across the highland, perfect for memorable pictures.
After a relaxed lunch and plenty of time among the meadows and forest, your private car returns you to your Chongqing hotel in the evening, refreshed by a day in the cool, scenic countryside of southwest China.

Traveler Reviews
My camera roll says Fairy Mountain Meadows & Forest Day was the big moment. My actual favourite was Chongqing; it felt less obvious and more personal.
What helped was simple: our guide read the pace well. We got the background when it helped, then space to explore instead of a running lecture. For 11 hours around Chongqing, the pace felt about right.
Looking back, I carried more than I needed. Water, a light layer and a small power bank would have covered the whole day. My only advice is not to shorten the time at Fairy Mountain Meadows & Forest Day.
Looking back, I tend to switch off when tours become a stream of dates. Here, the stories around Chongqing gave me enough to hold on to without overloading the day.
In short, worth doing for Fairy Mountain Meadows & Forest Day; worth remembering for the small stops in between.
