Lunch is a proper Chongqing hotpot at a restaurant locals actually use — your choice of full ma-la (numbing-spicy) or split-pot mild-spicy if you can't handle the heat. Afternoon transfers back into the city for the Hongya Cave area's iconic illuminated cliff-side architecture.

One detail from the day: what I remember is the change from one stop to the next: different room, different smell, different crowd. The hotpot meal was only one part of it.
The Chongqing stops were organised, but the food did not arrive like a rehearsed tasting menu. Each place kept its own character.
A practical note: one Chongqing dish was outside my comfort zone, which was half the reason I booked. Asking how locals eat it made the stop much more interesting.
