Kunming hosts Asia's largest flower auction (Dounan Flower Market, 斗南花卉市场) and Yunnan's traditional cuisine incorporates edible flowers more than any other Chinese regional cooking. This half-day experience pairs a tour of Dounan Flower Market (the wholesale auction running daily) with a hands-on cooking class in a local Yunnan kitchen where you'll prepare 3 dishes using fresh edible flowers: chrysanthemum salad, fried jasmine omelet, and rose petal sweet rice.
Includes a sit-down meal at the end where you eat what you cooked, plus a few traditional Yunnan side dishes prepared by the chef.

I expected the Lijiang cooking session to be mostly watching. We actually had time to handle the ingredients, ask basic questions and make mistakes without feeling rushed.
What helped was simple: our questions wandered well beyond the standard facts, and the guide stayed with them. That made the time at Lijiang much more interesting.
Looking back, the schedule is fairly full. I would have liked another twenty minutes at the cooking session, but I would not drop any of the main stops.
Looking back, this wasn't a “see everything” tour, and that was a strength. The time around Lijiang felt specific to Lijiang, not interchangeable with another city.
