About This Tour
Guizhou is southwest China's emerald secret, a misty highland province of jagged karst peaks, plunging waterfalls, terraced valleys and hundreds of Miao and Dong ethnic-minority villages where ancient festivals, silver finery and wooden drum-towers still thrive. This seven-day grand loop gathers its greatest hits: the thundering Huangguoshu, Asia's mightiest waterfall; the UNESCO South China Karst landscapes of Libo's Xiaoqikong with their jade-green pools; Xijiang Qianhu Miao, the largest Miao village on earth, glowing with a thousand timber houses on the hillside at night; and the Dong drum-tower villages near Zhaoxing. Because foreign visitors cannot legally self-drive in China, this is a chauffeured/guided self-drive: you ride in a private SUV with a professional English-speaking driver-guide who navigates the winding mountain roads and translates the rich local culture while you enjoy the views. The route uses Guizhou's excellent modern expressways and high bridges, sits at comfortable elevation, and needs no border permits, making it one of our most accessible and rewarding cultural drives. Famously cool in summer, it is China's top monsoon-season escape; spring through autumn is best, and minority festivals add magic. Private tour, priced per person. Day 1: Guiyang｜Arrival in the Highland Capital
Your driver-guide meets you at Guiyang Longdongbao airport (around 12 km, 25 min) and transfers you to a comfortable city hotel at about 1,100 m. Guiyang, the cool, green provincial capital, is the springboard for the loop. After check-in there is time to relax and explore the historic Jiaxiu Pavilion on the Nanming River and the lively Qianling Park with its wild macaques. In the evening your guide introduces Guizhou's fiery, sour-spicy cuisine, perhaps a 'sour-soup fish' hotpot, and outlines the seven-day clockwise route through waterfalls, karst and minority villages. No long driving today. Overnight in a 4-star Guiyang hotel. Meals: Dinner included.

Day 2: Guiyang to Huangguoshu｜Asia's Mightiest Waterfall
We drive west about 150 km, roughly 2 hours on expressway, to the Huangguoshu scenic area. The centrepiece is the Huangguoshu Waterfall, 78 m high and over 100 m wide, the largest in Asia and one of the few you can walk behind via the Water-Curtain Cave, emerging soaked and exhilarated amid rainbows and spray. We use the park shuttle between sites and also visit the Doupotang 'rice-terrace' falls and the Tianxingqiao karst gardens of stone, water and banyan roots nearby. The lush sub-tropical setting is at its most powerful in the summer rains. Overnight in a comfortable Anshun/Huangguoshu hotel (around 1,300 m). Meals: Breakfast, Lunch included.

Day 3: Huangguoshu to Xingyi｜Maling Gorge & Wanfenglin
A scenic 180 km, roughly 2.5 hour drive south brings us into Guizhou's most dramatic karst, around Xingyi. We hike the Maling River Gorge, a deep slot canyon laced with hundreds of 'spider-silk' waterfalls tumbling down moss-green walls (around 1-2 hours of stairs and boardwalk). In the afternoon we drive through Wanfenglin, the 'Forest of Ten Thousand Peaks', a sea of conical karst hills rising from neat farmland and Buyi villages, golden with rape flowers in spring. Sunset over the peaks from a viewpoint is unforgettable. Overnight in a comfortable Xingyi hotel (around 1,200 m). Meals: Breakfast, Lunch included.

Day 4: Xingyi to Libo｜Jade Pools of Xiaoqikong
A longer but beautiful 280 km, roughly 4 hour drive east across high karst bridges takes us to Libo, home of the UNESCO South China Karst. We spend the afternoon in the Xiaoqikong ('Small Seven-Arch Bridge') scenic area, a paradise of jade-green pools, travertine cascades, the Wolong Pool and forested limestone gorges threaded by an old stone bridge. Easy boardwalk trails and shuttle stops let us savour the water at a relaxed pace, the colour almost luminous in soft light. This is some of the most enchanting karst water scenery in China. Day 5: Libo to Xijiang｜Largest Miao Village on Earth
We drive about 230 km, roughly 3.5 hours, northeast into the Miao heartland of southeast Guizhou to Xijiang Qianhu Miao, the largest Miao village in the world, where more than a thousand tiered wooden 'diaojiaolou' stilt houses blanket two facing hillsides. We arrive in time to ride the shuttle to the upper viewpoint, watch a Miao welcome ceremony with rice-wine toasts and lusheng pipes, and explore the lanes of silversmiths and embroiderers. After dark the entire hillside lights up like a galaxy, one of China's great village panoramas. We stay inside the village to enjoy it after the day crowds leave. Overnight in a Xijiang village guesthouse (around 850 m). Meals: Breakfast, Dinner included.

Day 6: Xijiang to Guiyang｜Miao Lanes & Return
We enjoy a peaceful morning in Xijiang before the crowds, photographing the stilt houses in soft light, watching artisans at work and crossing the wind-and-rain bridges over the river. Optionally we stop at a smaller, quieter Miao or Dong village such as Langde or Datang en route. We then drive about 200 km, roughly 3 hours on expressway, back toward Guiyang. Arriving in the afternoon, there is time to relax, do last-minute shopping for Miao silver and batik, and enjoy a farewell Guizhou dinner. Your guide recaps the journey and assists with onward plans. Overnight in a comfortable Guiyang hotel. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch included.

Day 7: Guiyang｜Departure
After breakfast, depending on your flight or train time, you may take a final stroll through Guiyang's Qianling Park or browse a local tea market for Guizhou's prized green teas and rice wine. Your driver-guide then transfers you to Guiyang Longdongbao airport or the high-speed rail station (around 12-20 km) and helps with check-in. For travellers continuing on, we can arrange extensions to the Dong drum-tower villages of Zhaoxing and Jiabang's rice terraces, or onward by high-speed rail to Guilin. This concludes your seven-day Guizhou karst grand loop. Meals: Breakfast included.
