Half-Day Chengdu Back Alley Foodie Tour
Meet your guide at Liang Jia Xiang Metro Station Exit D and walk into the back lanes of Chengdu for a four-hour, small-group food route. Rather than staying on a single restaurant street, the tour connects neighborhood counters and modest alley spots that show how Sichuan residents eat through the day.
Seven tastings may include rabbit head, sweet-water noodles, dan dan noodles, mapo tofu, fuqi feipian, sticky rice cake and small plates from two hidden alley stops. The guide explains ingredients, spice levels and the usual way to order each dish, while keeping the group to fewer than nine people. Food, snacks, an English-speaking guide, alcoholic drinks and listed fees are included.

Looking back, the stop I expected to like least turned into the one we discussed afterward. That is the advantage of tasting with someone who can explain what is in front of you. For 4 hours around Chengdu, the pace felt about right.
The unglamorous part: translation mattered as much as the cooking in Chengdu. We could ask the host ordinary questions instead of relying on a rehearsed demonstration.
Before you go, come hungry in Chengdu and say clearly what you cannot eat. There was enough variety that skipping one item did not make the experience feel smaller. I would keep the Chengdu outline as it was.
