Half-Day Kashgar Sunday Market and Old Town Walking Tour

Kashgar's Old Town is where the Silk Road still smells like bread. For two thousand years caravans coming over the Pamir from Persia, Bukhara and Kashmir converged on this oasis, and you can still feel it in the maze of mudbrick lanes, the copper workshops, the naan ovens steaming on every corner, and the Uyghur grandfathers playing chess outside the mosque. On Sundays the city turns into something even louder — the Sunday Bazaar and the famous livestock market draw farmers, herders and traders from across the southern Tarim basin.

This is a private half-day walking tour with a licensed English-speaking guide who grew up in or around the Old Town. We pace it slowly — three to four hours on foot — so you can actually photograph, taste and ask questions. On Sundays we adjust the route to spend more time in the bazaar and (if you're up for it) the livestock market on the city's edge, where the sheep, goats and the occasional camel still change hands the same way they did under the Qing.

Itinerary (approximate):

• 09:00 — Hotel pickup; short drive to the Old Town east gate
• 09:30 — Walking tour through the Kashgar Old Town lanes: pottery and copper workshops, naan oven stops, hat-makers, the Id Kah Mosque exterior
• 11:00 — Tea break at a traditional Uyghur tea house
• 11:30 — On Sundays: transfer to the Sunday Bazaar and (optional) the livestock market for an hour each. On other days: extended Old Town walk including the Apak Khoja Mausoleum area or a Uyghur instrument workshop
• 13:00 — Drop-off at your hotel or at a recommended Uyghur lunch spot

Who this is for: First-time visitors to Kashgar, Silk Road history fans, photographers who want the textures of a real working oasis city, families with kids 5 and up. Easy walking pace, mostly flat, suitable for anyone moderately mobile.

Logistics: Private air-conditioned vehicle and English-speaking guide. Old Town entrance fees included where applicable. Tea and naan tasting on us. Sundays are the most atmospheric day and we recommend timing your Kashgar stop to overlap a Sunday — but the Old Town itself is open and walkable any day. Foreign passport required for ID checks in the bazaar area.
