Itinerary
Hangzhou: Qiandao Lake Lakeside Cycling Private Day Trip
Trade the city for shimmering blue water on this easygoing private cycling day trip to Qiandao Lake, the 'Thousand Island Lake,' one of eastern China's most beautiful lake landscapes. After a comfortable pickup from your Hangzhou hotel, your private car and English-speaking guide drive you out to the lakeshore, where a quality bicycle and helmet are fitted to you.
After a gentle warm-up and a short safety briefing, you set off along the famous lakeside cycling path used during the Asian Games. The route is flat and scenic, hugging the water past the graceful Shangjiangbu Bridge and through ribbons of seasonal flowers - purple verbena, orange canna lilies, golden coreopsis and red poppies all blooming beside the road. The pace is unhurried and family-friendly, with frequent stops for photos at lake viewpoints.
Rather than a strenuous race, this is a relaxed ride where you can roll along, pause whenever you like and simply enjoy the open views, fresh air and birdsong. Midway you reach a riverside village where a delicious local lunch awaits - Qiandao Lake is renowned for its fresh fish, and the regional fish-head feast is a real highlight.
After lunch and a rest, you cycle gently back along the same beautiful shore, stopping at more viewing platforms before returning your bike. Your private car then brings you back to your hotel. This authentic-China day out is perfect for travellers who enjoy light, scenic cycling, regional food and flexible door-to-door comfort. Pets are welcome.

Traveler Reviews
Looking back, there was a fair amount in 10 hours, but it never felt like a checklist. The stop at the cycling section had room to breathe instead of becoming another quick photo.
The unglamorous part: the practical side was solid: an easy pickup, sensible timing between stops, and no long sales detour disguised as sightseeing. With 10 hours to work with, the balance felt sensible.
One thing I learned: lunch landed later than I expected, so a small snack was useful. I was happier not cutting the time at the cycling section. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
I liked this more a day later, when I looked back through my photos and realised how different Hangzhou and the cycling section had felt.
In short, no grand claims from me: this was organised well, felt personal and showed us Hangzhou at a sensible pace. For 10 hours around Hangzhou, the pace felt about right.
