Wuzhen is China's best-preserved water town from the Tang dynasty, 1.5 hours from Hangzhou. Morning departure for the East Scenic Zone (Dongzha): private gondola through the canal, the Hongyuantai Indigo-Dye Workshop where masters still tie-dye traditional cloth, the Yida Silk Workshop, and a Yangtze noodle lunch at a canal-side restaurant. Afternoon shifts to West Scenic Zone (Xizha) for quieter canals, the famous Mao Dun museum (Wuzhen-born Nobel-nominated author), and the Water Theater stage where Bai opera plays at dusk. Return to Hangzhou by 6pm.
