Ingredients are prepared in advance so the class runs smoothly, and guests choose 1 dish from 4 local options: Yunnan mushroom hotpot, Crossing-the-bridge rice noodles, Steam-pot chicken, Yunnan-style barbecue spice mix. The local cook demonstrates the key techniques, then you make the dish yourself with guided support. Traveler Reviews
Looking back, the dish we made in Lijiang was not restaurant-perfect, which made me like it more. We had made it ourselves and understood what went into it.
The unglamorous part: dietary questions in Lijiang were handled before we started, not halfway through the first tasting. That made the session much easier to enjoy.
Before you go, come hungry in Lijiang and say clearly what you cannot eat. There was enough variety that skipping one item did not make the experience feel smaller.
We booked because arranging Lijiang ourselves looked fiddly. We came away remembering the conversations as much as the places.
No grand claims from me: this was organised well, felt personal and showed us Lijiang at a sensible pace.
