Honestly, I chose this route for the Li River, but it didn't feel built around a single attraction. The Yangshuo countryside gave the day a different rhythm. For 5 hours around Xi'an and Guilin, the pace felt about right.
This worked for us because we didn't have to solve transport between the Yangshuo countryside and the river cruise. We could pay attention to the places, not the logistics.
A practical note: there was more walking than I guessed from the title. Nothing difficult, just enough that I was glad I wore trainers. The time around the river cruise was not the part I would cut.
In hindsight, the best compliment I can give is that I never checked how many stops were left. The Yangshuo countryside arrived at just the right point in the route.
