Looking back, by dinner we were still comparing notes about Shaolin Temple. That is usually how I judge whether a tour was worth doing.
The unglamorous part: the private format mattered most between the main stops. No waiting for a coach to refill and no counting thirty people before moving on. I would still leave extra time for the Longmen Grottoes.
One thing I learned: traffic added time to the day, so comfortable shoes and a little patience helped. The visit itself did not feel shortened. With 10 hours to work with, the balance felt sensible.
