For us, what stayed with me wasn't the booking or the car. It was the time at Xuancheng Crocodile Lake & Pagodas Day, when we could slow down and actually look around.
Practically speaking, I liked that the day had structure without feeling scripted. Questions were answered properly, and there was also time to look around in silence. The time around Xuancheng Crocodile Lake & Pagodas Day was not the part I would cut.
The pace suited us, but this is not a lazy half day. Leave some space before whatever you plan next. For 9 hours around Nanjing, the pace felt about right.
Honestly, this felt like travelling with someone who knew the area, not following a person holding a flag. That difference showed most at Nanjing.
