My camera roll says the Great Wall was the big moment. My actual favourite was the Forbidden City; it felt less obvious and more personal. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
What helped was simple: our guide read the pace well. We got the background when it helped, then space to explore instead of a running lecture. The time around the Forbidden City was not the part I would cut.
Looking back, I would check the weather and dress in layers. We moved between the vehicle, open spaces and indoor sites often enough to notice the difference. My only advice is not to shorten the time at the Great Wall.
Looking back, I tend to switch off when tours become a stream of dates. Here, the stories around the Great Wall gave me enough to hold on to without overloading the day.
Honestly, a full 8 hours, in the good sense. Wear comfortable shoes and leave the evening loose. With 8 hours to work with, the balance felt sensible.
