Shanghai: Meiwu Ancient Trail Bamboo Forest Private Day Trip
Enjoy one of the gentlest and most scenic countryside walks in eastern China on this easygoing private day trip from Shanghai to the Meiwu Ancient Trail near Shaoxing. After a comfortable pickup from your hotel, your private vehicle brings you to the green hills of Shangyu for a slow, peaceful day in nature.
The Meiwu Ancient Trail once linked the old towns of Shangpu and Dongguan, carrying travelers' footsteps for a thousand years. Even the famed statesman Xie An of the Eastern Jin dynasty rested here, and the Qima Bridge where he paused still stands today. With your English-speaking guide sharing these stories, you enter through Meiwu village and cross the historic bridge into the trail.
This is a genuinely gentle walk, only about 5 kilometers with very little elevation gain, so it suits almost anyone. You will pass a centuries-old maple tree, wander through dense bamboo and fir woods, and follow a babbling brook, with the calm waters of Cheng Lake mirroring the green hills and moss carpeting the old stone path. There is ample time for relaxed photo stops and a leisurely lunch.
This tour is ideal for travelers who want authentic Jiangnan scenery, fresh forest air and a touch of history without any tough hiking. Your private car, guide and driver stay with you all day, and in the late afternoon you are driven comfortably back to your Shanghai hotel.

Traveler Reviews
A small thing I appreciated: the guide let Meiwu Ancient Trail Bamboo Forest Day speak for itself sometimes. Not every quiet moment needed another speech.
The unglamorous part: pickup and the trail start were timed well, so we were walking before the busiest part of the day. Water and rest stops were discussed clearly. I would rather keep the pause at Meiwu Ancient Trail Bamboo Forest Day than add another stop.
One thing I learned: the trail is more physical than the tidy itinerary makes it sound. Proper shoes helped, and I was glad we kept water handy. The time around Meiwu Ancient Trail Bamboo Forest Day was not the part I would cut.
