Traveler Reviews
My camera roll says Yu Garden was the big moment. My actual favourite was the Bund; it felt less obvious and more personal. The time around Yu Garden was not the part I would cut.
What helped was simple: our guide read the pace well. We got the background when it helped, then space to explore instead of a running lecture. For 7 hours and 30 minutes around Shanghai, the pace felt about right.
Looking back, I would check the weather and dress in layers. We moved between the vehicle, open spaces and indoor sites often enough to notice the difference. I would still leave extra time for Yu Garden.
Looking back, this wasn't a “see everything” tour, and that was a strength. The time around the Bund felt specific to Shanghai, not interchangeable with another city.
Honestly, worth doing for Yu Garden; worth remembering for the small stops in between.
