Itinerary
Shanghai: Xitang Night Water Town & Paddleboard Trip
Combine gentle water fun with the romance of a glowing ancient water town on this private, easygoing afternoon-to-evening trip from Shanghai to Jiaxing.
After a comfortable midday pickup from your Shanghai hotel in a private vehicle, you and your English-speaking guide travel about an hour to the lakeside Xushan Village camp in Jiaxing, a peaceful spot known as the birthplace of the local Dragon Boat Festival culture. Here, after a friendly safety briefing from a professional instructor, you enjoy a relaxed stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) experience on calm water. Prefer something even more laid-back? You can choose a kayak instead. There is no pressure and no athletic requirement, just easy fun on the water at your own pace. Afterwards you change and can stroll the village or simply relax at the camp.
Next, your private car takes you a short distance to Xitang Ancient Town, one of the most beautiful water towns in the Jiangnan region and a filming location made famous in popular music videos and movies. As dusk falls and the red lanterns light up, you wander the canal-side lanes with your guide, watch the little boats drift by, and enjoy the enchanting reflections on the water.
A local lunch is included, and you have free time to seek out Jiaxing's delicious snacks in the evening. Throughout the day your private guide and driver take care of everything, so you can simply relax, play on the water, and savor a dreamy night in an authentic Chinese water town before returning to your Shanghai hotel.

Traveler Reviews
The part around Xitang Night Water Town & Paddleboard was unhurried, which mattered more to me than squeezing in one more stop. Shanghai was a good counterpoint.
What helped was simple: our questions wandered well beyond the standard facts, and the guide stayed with them. That made the time at Shanghai much more interesting. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
Looking back, I would check the weather and dress in layers. We moved between the vehicle, open spaces and indoor sites often enough to notice the difference. My only advice is not to shorten the time at Xitang Night Water Town & Paddleboard.
Looking back, this wasn't a “see everything” tour, and that was a strength. The time around Shanghai felt specific to Shanghai, not interchangeable with another city. I would still leave extra time for Xitang Night Water Town & Paddleboard.
