Looking back, by dinner we were still comparing notes about Yixing Bamboo Sea & Ancient Trail Day. That is usually how I judge whether a tour was worth doing.
The unglamorous part: the route was explained before we set out, including the parts that would take more effort. I prefer that to discovering the hard section halfway up. I would rather keep the pause at Yixing Bamboo Sea & Ancient Trail Day than add another stop.
One thing I learned: the trail is more physical than the tidy itinerary makes it sound. Proper shoes helped, and I was glad we kept water handy. The time around Yixing Bamboo Sea & Ancient Trail Day was not the part I would cut.
