Honestly, I had seen plenty of photos of Dongxichong Scenic Coast Day. Being there was quieter and more absorbing than I expected, and I stopped checking my phone for a while.
The meeting instructions were clear and we knew what came next without being herded around. In Shenzhen, that saved a surprising amount of energy. My only advice is not to shorten the time at Dongxichong Scenic Coast Day.
A practical note: the busiest place on the route was genuinely busy. Starting earlier would be my only change. For 11 hours around Shenzhen, the pace felt about right.
In hindsight, we booked because arranging Shenzhen ourselves looked fiddly. We came away remembering the conversations as much as the places.
In short, the guide knew when to explain and when to stop talking. Rare, and appreciated. I would keep the Shenzhen outline as it was.
