In the afternoon, drive to Gudou Fortune Hill for a gentle walk up well-maintained paths. There is no rush and no strenuous climbing - just an easy, scenic ascent. From the Fortune Square at the top you can make a wish for good luck, look out over the emerald waters of Dongfanghong Reservoir on one side, and catch sea views on the other. The combination of mountain, lake and sea makes for memorable panoramas.
The pace stays comfortable throughout, focusing on heritage, scenery and good food rather than intensive hiking. After a full and easy day, you are driven back to your hotel in Guangzhou. Stops can be adjusted to your interests.

My camera roll says the photography stops was the big moment. My actual favourite was Guangzhou; it felt less obvious and more personal.
What helped was simple: our questions wandered well beyond the standard facts, and the guide stayed with them. That made the time at Guangzhou much more interesting. I would rather keep the pause at the photography stops than add another stop.
Looking back, I carried more than I needed. Water, a light layer and a small power bank would have covered the whole day. For 13 hours around Guangzhou, the pace felt about right.
Looking back, this felt like travelling with someone who knew the area, not following a person holding a flag. That difference showed most at Guangzhou. The time around the photography stops was not the part I would cut.
In short, worth doing for the photography stops; worth remembering for the small stops in between.
