Traveler Reviews
Looking back, I expected the long road days to be the tiring part. Watching the landscape change on the way to Shangri-La is what I remember most.
The unglamorous part: the vehicle and driver are a big part of a route like this. Regular stops and clear plans for the longer road days kept it comfortable.
One thing I learned: some days involve more time in the vehicle than the photos suggest. The changing landscape made it worthwhile, but this route suits people who enjoy the road itself.
We booked because arranging Chengdu and Lhasa ourselves looked fiddly. We came away remembering the conversations as much as the places.
