This full-day private tour drives ~2.5h each way from Chongqing city to Wulong with an English guide, allows 3-4 hours inside the karst park, and includes lunch at Tianfu Old Town (天福古镇) at the base of the canyon — a traditional Chongqing farmhouse meal with local mountain vegetables, smoked pork, and rice wine. Long day but the cinematography pay-off is significant.

For us, what stayed with me wasn't the booking or the car. It was the time at the Zhangjiajie peaks, when we could slow down and actually look around.
Practically speaking, communication beforehand was straightforward. On the day, the plan was explained once and then everything simply felt easy to follow. My only advice is not to shorten the time at the Zhangjiajie peaks.
The pace suited us, but this is not a lazy half day. Leave some space before whatever you plan next. I would still leave extra time for the Zhangjiajie peaks.
Honestly, I had a long list of things I thought I needed to see. After Zhangjiajie and Chongqing, I was happier slowing down and noticing fewer things properly.
