About This Tour
This 7-day private tour is the perfect introduction to Yunnan, China's most culturally and scenically diverse province. Travel with your own English-speaking guide and private vehicle from the canals of Lijiang Old Town to the ancient tea-horse town of Shaxi, then sip the Bai people's famous three-course tea overlooking Erhai Lake. Stand on the rim of Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest river canyons on earth, where the Jinsha River thunders between two snow mountains. Climb onto the Tibetan plateau at Shangri-La to visit the golden Songzanlin Monastery, walk the boardwalks of Pudacuo National Park, and finish at serene Lugu Lake, home to the matriarchal Mosuo people, with a canoe ride and a lakeside bonfire under the stars. Ideal for first-time visitors and families who want world-class scenery, living ethnic cultures and comfortable 4-star hotels at a relaxed pace. Best from March to November. Itinerary

Day 1: Lijiang | Arrival & Old Town
Arrive in Lijiang at your own pace and check into the centrally located 4-star hotel; travelers booking two or more places receive a complimentary airport or railway-station transfer. The rest of the day is free to wander the UNESCO-listed Lijiang Old Town, a maze of cobbled lanes, canals and Naxi courtyard houses backed by Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Your guide hosts a short welcome briefing to confirm the days ahead. Meals are on your own this evening so you can explore the night market. Overnight in central Lijiang (approx. 2,400 m).

Day 2: Shaxi & Dali | Tea-Horse Road
Drive about 220 km (3.5 hrs) to the ancient market town of Shaxi for a relaxed citywalk along Sideng Street, past the old opera stage, town gate and Yujin Bridge, then visit the century-old Xingjiao Temple. Lunch is the included caravan-style 'mabang' meal at the home of tea-horse trade descendants. In the afternoon continue to a hidden hillside courtyard above Dali to taste the Bai people's three-course tea, a ritual of bitter, sweet and reflective flavors, with sweeping views over the Dali plain and Erhai Lake. Day 3: Erhai Lake & Tiger Leaping Gorge
After breakfast cycle a scenic stretch of the 44 km Erhai West greenway, with the lake on one side and the Cangshan range on the other, rolling past whitewashed Bai villages and orchards. Then drive about 205 km (3 hrs) to Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the world's deepest canyons, where the Jinsha River roars between Jade Dragon and Haba snow mountains. Walk down to the Upper Gorge viewing platform to feel the raw power of the water. Tonight stay in a cliffside guesthouse facing the dramatic back wall of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Non-cyclists may stroll the greenway or relax at a lakeside cafe. Overnight in Tiger Leaping Gorge town. (B)

Day 4: Baishuitai & Pudacuo National Park
Set out for Baishuitai, the 'Eastern Cotton Castle', terraced calcium-carbonate pools at the foot of Haba Snow Mountain and a cradle of Naxi Dongba culture, with a short hike to the viewpoint. Continue to Pudacuo National Park, part of the UNESCO Three Parallel Rivers World Heritage area, where a park shuttle reaches Shudu Lake; follow boardwalks past wetlands, alpine meadows and forest. By evening reach Shangri-La and stroll Dukezong Old Town, spinning the giant golden prayer wheel and perhaps joining locals in a Tibetan circle dance. Drive about 170 km (3.5 hrs). Day 5: Songzanlin Monastery & Napa Lake
Visit Songzanlin Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan, often called the 'Little Potala Palace' for its tiered hillside architecture; circle sacred Lamu Yangcuo lake before stepping inside to learn about Tibetan Buddhist culture. Drive to the Napa Lake viewpoint overlooking the Yila grassland, then ride a short loop of the lakeshore road past grazing herds, blue sky and distant peaks. Continue about 170 km (3 hrs) back toward Lijiang, checking in near Shuhe Old Town for a free afternoon among its Naxi houses, streams and craft workshops. Overnight near Shuhe Old Town. (B)

Day 6: Lijiang to Lugu Lake
Drive about 195 km (3.5 hrs) through the mountains to Lugu Lake, passing Ninglang before the lake reveals itself from the Goddess Mountain viewpoint. After lunch begin a leisurely lake circuit taking in Lover's Beach and the Lige peninsula viewpoint, with plenty of photo stops on the dreamlike blue water. Visit a traditional Mosuo grandmother's house and join a 'Mosuo culture talk' by a local scholar to understand this matrilineal society and its famous 'walking marriage' customs. As night falls, join the lakeside Mosuo bonfire party with singing and dancing, then watch the Milky Way rise over the water. Overnight in a Lugu Lake-view guesthouse. (B)

Day 7: Lugu Lake & Departure
Rise early for a quiet morning by the lake and, if you wish, a sunrise stroll along the shore. After breakfast head to Sanjia Village pier to board a traditional Mosuo 'pig-trough' canoe and glide across the lake to Liwubi Island as the boatmen sing folk songs, taking in the calm dawn scenery. Return to shore, then transfer back toward Lijiang where the tour concludes; your guide will help coordinate your onward flight or train. Please book departures with enough buffer for the mountain drive back. Drive distances vary by your departure point. (B)
