This 3-hour dinner experience is a guided wild mushroom hot pot meal at one of Kunming's top mushroom hot pot restaurants. Your guide explains each variety (matsutake, porcini, sheep's head, chanterelle, milk-cap, ji-zong, and 6-8 others depending on season), cooking times, and how to identify the rarer specimens.

Looking back, the stop I expected to like least turned into the one we discussed afterward. That is the advantage of tasting with someone who can explain what is in front of you. For 3 hours around Lijiang, the pace felt about right.
The unglamorous part: the Lijiang meeting point was simple to find, and the food stops came at a sensible pace. There was time to ask what we were eating rather than just moving to the next plate. For this itinerary, the number of stops was enough.
Before you go, come hungry in Lijiang and say clearly what you cannot eat. There was enough variety that skipping one item did not make the experience feel smaller. I would keep the Lijiang outline as it was.
The route made more sense once we were on it. Time at Lijiang set the pace, while the hotpot meal gave us a reason to slow down.
In short, no grand claims from me: this was organised well, felt personal and showed us Lijiang at a sensible pace. I would still leave extra time for the hotpot meal.
